Trek Up The Tower 2013

Need some incentive to stay in shape this winter?

If you have always wanted to try this event but didn't have a team, this is your chance! The Bike Masters Team is open to anyone, not just race team and club members.

Trek Up the Tower is Omaha’s premier vertical challenge race to the top of the First National Tower in downtown Omaha. The 2013 event will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 and will benefit the Wellness Council of the Midlands as they work to build a healthier community through worksite wellness and health promotion.

Here are some fun facts about the event and stair climbing:
  • A 175lb person burns 358 calories in just 30 minutes by climbing stairs.
  • First National Tower is the tallest building between Chicago and Denver and offers a
view from the highest point in Omaha
  • The record to complete the 870-stair climb was 4 minutes and 24 seconds, set in
    2009.
Trek up the Tower has reached its maximum number of participants prior to race day three years in a row.

To register, visit trekupthetower.org. Once you’re there, simply select Bike Masters as your team.

We have a six story office building near Dodge and 132nd to practice, which is really important to give one an idea of effort, technique (one, two or three steps at a time), and pace you can maintain.

Important not to go anaerobic, breathing really hard and drying out your throat. Sore throat lazenges (sic) just before start helps.

Good motivation to get out of house during Winter, good cause to support, good time with people of like mind.

Also, being fast is not a prerequisite. There are people who walk one step at a time the entire 40 floors. It's about participating and helping a good cause.

No limit on team size, but it will fill up fast, so make decision to do it and set reminder to register Nov 1.
