dirt dropbar replaced with marybar

About 6 weeks ago, I installed wtb dirt drops on mary. After some riding, I moved the seat all the way forward and dropped the saddle nose. After my attempt at the metro singletrack tour this past weekend, I decided to return to the marybar.

Those who ride dirt drops say the hands are located very close to a normal bar. Even with a steep stem, the drops were neither high nor far enough back.

- The drops steer more quickly, even on the side of twichiness.
- The low, forward position made lifting the front wheel very difficult. I had to slow down more than normal to power pedal and lift over objects.
- My hands were more sore b/c position caused more weight, running smaller volume tires (40c) at higher pressure, and the bar tape not as giving as my ourays.

- I enjoyed having more grip positions.
- The drops allowed me to float above the saddle more easily.
- Better aerodynamics

A longer steer tube could raise the bar enough, but I think a shorter top tube is needed to get the drops back enough. The tires and bar are a cross bike setup, and that frame geometry produces a better hand position.

I was trying to get a general purpose bike for on/off road. Many think a cross bike is the best all arounder. I like larger volume tire capability of a 29er but frame geometry doesn't work for a wtb drop bar on singletrack, imo. There is the on-one midge but the numbers are pretty close to wtb. Since I like the 45 degree sweep of the marybar, the H bar would probably be more to my liking on mary, and provide me with additional grip positions.
