Some guys at the shop still like vbrakes. I would make sure the contact points are acceptable. This bike is entry level so I'm not sure how much money should be put into it. Maybe some fat tires for all terrain. Or taller gear for commuting.

I'm curious about what this bike is. I looked at Marin Bikes web site and I didn't see any single speed bikes.

The 08 catelog is not on Marin's website yet.

The Hamilton is under their Street-Urban bikes. ss with horizontal dropouts. It fits 29"/700c wheels.
$410

People will put fat tires on this for singletrack. I don't know what the maximum tire width is.

Marin Muirwood 29er is the geared version of the Hamilton, vertical dropout, still rigid but with mechanical disk brakes.
$580

Again, add fat tires for singletrack.

Under the Alloy HT is the Alpine Trail 29er. Geared and front suspension.
$675

Under the Exotic HT is the Pine Mountain 29er ss with eccentric BB.
$1605

It is available with a rear der hanger and cable stays to go geared.
