The neighbors think I am strange

Hope everyone had a happy holiday and new year. I am hoping for an early spring.

You are strange. But in a good way. Good to see you out there. I'm going to make a go of commuting to work tomorrow. Hopefully my mask will warm the air enough in this sub zero temps.

I rode to work Saturday and on the way back home rode around the neighborhood some. About 30 minutes into it my finger tips were tingling and I went home.

Today would have been fun on the streets in the light snow.

Be careful on the ride in Bob.

Forgot to mention good job for getting out for a ride today, Dave.

I made it in ok. It took over 2 hours to go 14 miles. The keystone turned out to be impassable. The trailhead is not plowed for the first 1/2 mile starting at Fort, so it has ALL the snow on it from the last 2 storms. After that first 1/2 mile, it's only about 3 inches deep, but all the foot traffic has made it VERY uneven and almost impossible to bike on without BIG tires. My 32c studded tires were all over the place.

Eventually I just got back onto city street and chugged along at 5mph.

I got the clothing right, and I was never cold except for my toes near the end of the ride. But my goggles froze up within 20 minutes of leaving home. But after removing them, I was surprised to find that my bare eyes stayed warm with my breath heating them up. If it was windy or I was riding faster, this would have been a big issue.

All in all, it was an enjoyable ride when I wasn't on the unplowed Keystone. But it took way too long to be feasible for daily commuting in this kind of weather. No way can I take 4+ hours away from my family every day so that I can bike to work.

I'll probably wait for the trails to get plowed before trying them again, and I'll use all streets until then on the days that I do commute.

I wish I could make myself go for a ride, but it is just too cold for me. Glad to see some people are getting out.

We might need to create our own early spring and drive south!

it was fun just putting around the neighbor hood. I enjoyed the challenge. I wish it was feasable for me to commute during the winter, then I wouldnt have to go to the gym.
