Thanks to Micah, Jesse, Devan, Craig, and Ryan for representing Bike Masters at Ponca's Revenge.
Ponca is a hard trail but one of my favorites. The number of sustained climbs are balanced by the number of descents with bermed corners and the contour sections that continually bend out of sight. Though no wind, you were in the shade 99% of the time.
Results without times are here: http://www.siouxcityvelo.com/?q=node/1526. Hopefully, the results on NCN will have times.
Juniors did one lap. Congrats to Micah who won 10-12 and Jesse who was first of 4 in 13-15. Juniors, Cat 3, and Marathon all started together and Micah and Jesse finished the first lap before I did. Great rides, guys!
Cat 3 did two laps. Devan had some mechanical issues with his chain rings and finished 5th of 11. But that wasn't enough, he went out and rode the Cat 2 race and came in 10th of 18! I bet his pain at the start of the cat 2 was pretty intense. His lap times were faster in cat 2 b/c no mechanicals. I believe it was Devan's first time riding Ponca.
Craig came in 2nd of 10 in 45+. Again, a first time for riding Ponca. The hills separated his class much more than the previous races.
I did 5 laps in the marathon and came in 11th of 13. The first 3 laps were pretty similar with pushing the same hills. On the 4th lap I had to walk more hills and on the final lap I was walking the longer hills with even small grades. I was toast.
Ryan was hitting on all cyclinders and took the win in Marathon! Congratulations! He passed me twice and got in 8 laps. Heard he's been doing 300 mile weeks getting ready for the Firecracker 50 in Breckenridge, CO July 4.
Thanks to Soiux City Velo for hosting and manning the road crossings; and Ponca State Park for wanting us to race there.
The next Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath race is at Tranquility Aug 8.
