something doesn't look right

It didn't feel right either when out of the blue it happened. I am trying to give Niner the benefit of the doubt, but this is the second defect in as many Niner bikes I've had. Lets see how prompt they are about fixing the problem.

Wow... I guess it's good that it wasn't your feet that had that kind of break. ;-)

Bumber though.

Holy cow? i know Tranq is tight, but I don't know of any drops there!

Did it buck you off when it happened?

I'm wondering where in the design, manufacture, test process this problem got by? Niner talks about taking it's time with design to get the ride they want. Did they spend enough time testing the final rockerarm design in real world or rely more on CAD to check stresses and forces? Or is this a manufacturing defect, materials problem, etc.?

They need to:
1) pinpoint the problem or problems; redesign, retool, possibly resource the material
2) retest in the real world till sufficient confidence is reached
3) refit all bikes manufactured.

Depending on where they are in the process and how many times they need to go through steps 1 and 2, will determine how long 1x9 has to wait. They are taking a hit on their reputation. They need to make sure they understand the problem and fix it right the first time.

Yeah, the thing just popped apart on totally flat ground while I was seated and just spinning. Rocker arms have been around a long time so I can't believe correcting the problem will take long. Niner at least needs to get a temp. fix out to those that already own the bike and then worry about cosmetics.

d mars: Dont worry about an 853 reynolds frame breaking. I'll let you ride mine off the shop roof[you wont land it]. Your fork and other components are the wimpy links in the set up.I think the previous break was scandium, not steel. The worst that could happen with steel is a bend. All frame builders suffer from breaks in ultra light parts. Scandium,Ti and carbon all suffer from catastrophic failures. Get the SIR 9, and put it in your will for your grandkids to ride. Wrigley will be riding mine someday.

Thanks Poloscab(Dan?) I feel alot better about the mcr frame, What do you mean I wont land it?

1by9, I guess you could say that you are part of Niners real world testing Team now. If you get the jones for a ride you can always borrow my NRS sometime.

Just got off the phone with Niner and they are clueless right now about what to do with the Jet. I took my frustrations out on Tranquility by weed wacking the creek sections until after dusk Friday night. Lots of ticks out there now!
