Hey folks,
It's a way off yet, but I wanted to let everybody know about an event I'm holding at noon on November 10 at Bike Masters. It's called Cranksgiving, and it's most definitely not my idea. Many Cranksgivings have been held in many other cities. I'm just bringing it to Omaha.
Here's what it is:
-- A ride/race that benefits the Food Bank of Omaha.
-- Around 11:50 a.m., riders will get a list of 10 items that must be purchased from 10 different stores.
-- All riders will get the same list, but it doesn't matter where they go or how they get them.
-- First one back wins.
-- We'll weigh everything and then take it to the Food Bank on Monday.
Afterward, we'll have some eats (soups, maybe some sloppy joes, etc.) and a prize drawing. There's some VERY cool stuff on the way from a number of generous companies and individuals. (Think apparel and components.)
I'm not asking for volunteers or anything like that, but you can help if you want. I'd prefer you rode, though, so we can collect a ton of stuff for the Food Bank. If you happened to see the story in the World-Herald a few days ago, you'll see they're in need of supplies. And we can help. And if you want to bring food for the riders to eat, that's cool, too.
Let me know if you have questions or want to help. Or go here. The website is getting a cosmetic makeover sometime next week, but the info is there.
thanks,
bryan

Sounds like fun, except the race part. There are a few bob trailers around. We could make it more of a group ride by splitting the riders amongst the bobs to ride from store to store buying stuff.
Let's see, 70 lb limit, estimate 1 lb/can average * 10 stores so maybe 3 or 4 riders filling each bob. My understanding is bridge weight limits are half the expected failure weight, so shooting for 35 lbs/bob should provide enough buffer.
Didn't mean to change the race format. My bob will be there for filling and casual ride.
we are having a prize* for heaviest bag, so feel free to aim for that. really, though, the prizes for the winners won't be awe-inspiring. Cool(ish), but the drawing prizes will be better.
*it'll be a real 'treasure,' I'm sure.
