I left the shop about 11 and didn't get back till 1700. Almost two hours to get there. Ryan and Roxy caught me about a mile north of Cornhusker. We got to the singletrack and I was pretty weak, even with a 32x18. Rode to Tetnus Ridge and found Tim F riding backwards. Return to the start with him, then 1 lap regular direction. I took half a quart of his cold gatorade back at the parking lot, then I laid down for a while at the pavillion to cool down. Ate a Luna bar and popped an electolyte from Steven, then headed back in for a lap.
That's when my right grip came off going downhill. Promptly pushed left hand forward to keep from falling on the stem. The bar than went 90 degrees right and I was flying over them, nice sliding landing on left side, rolling to my back and seeing the bike fly over me and land in front.
Broke my L&M light off the front, Serfas popped off the back, bent the front wheel and rear rotor. Collected my belongings and after less than two laps decided it was time to ride home. Stopped at 84th street for two quarts of gatorade to rehydrate. Returned to the shop and fixed everything except the L&M mount.
After church and the dog park this morning, decided to stay inside with the ac today.
We had talked about eventually moving to Texas or Arizona but after this summer, I'm not sure I could take the heat down there.
Happy to hear your are not hurt. Staying in the ac sunday was a wise choice. I rode quite a bit the days prior to the Norfolk race, I do not think there was enough recovery time. I had a pretty bad bonk that day. It ended up with a solid week off the bike. My fitness level could have been higher, but I do think there should have been more recovery time. It is like eating enough in the cold. Hard lessons.
Glad your okay Dale. Thats a bit creepy about the grips. Does 1x9 know that some adhesives will break down carbon fiber resin? Not that 1x9 uses any carbon parts or anything.
Oh, and someone's got to say this: Texas or Arizona? They say its a DRY heat.
I used a little hair spray to stick the grip on, but that stuff may eat through aluminum. 8-)
The eastern quarter of Texas is not dry heat, more like Louisiana. Been in Dallas in August with triple digit temps. The pool water was in the upper 80's.

That is a bummer Dale, sorry you had such a rough outing. At least no broken body parts, and you were able to get the bike back together.
I'm quite wimpy in the heat myself, I can't imagine living in Texas or Arizona ...

Did you say "Dry Heave"?
