I think everyone made it except Tim, where are your priorities, dude? Missed you, there were only 5 in ss. I think numbers were down in a couple other cat/classes as well.

Unfortunately, not everyone made it through unscathed - Josh with a separated left shoulder, the tree won. Doug finally endo'd his mamasita; calf, quad, and bicep bruised. And Mark with a separated right shoulder. Need to thank Josh's girlfriend for taking care of the injuries. She will have a full time job keeping Josh and his friends out of the doctor's office.

Surprised to get the race in after all the rain the last couple weeks. The first part on the lower west side felt like I had my brakes on. Not until climbing up towards Tetnus Ridge did the ground roll better. Or maybe it was because there was a lot of downhill after that!

The trail races differently in reverse. I was passed at the beginning like usual, but I was passed in the middle of the race as well. I think I ran three 27s and a 29 for time. Last lap I cramped up on the long climb to Tetnus and fell over.

Other than occassional cramps, I felt good and count this as a good race. Checking my water, I was drinking about 16 oz/lap (3 water and one Gu2O); ate four cliff bloks total. Will need to figure out the cramps, may have needed a 19 instead of an 18?

I want to thank all who participated in the 07 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series - racers, helpers, and families! We will be having an end of season bmcc celebration to be announced soon.

Enjoy the ride!

Hope everyone that got hurt is doing ok. Separated shourders, wow! Thats at least the second race that josh's girlfriend had to attend to someont that got hurt. Maybe we could all chip in and hire her as the official bike masters nurse.
I endoed myself, but it was a very soft forgiving landing. It cost me third place, but I had a good race anyway.
I was a disappointed at the end of the race when I found out that I can only win The NORBA state champion if I had purchased an annual lisence (I purchased all daily lisences) I was around 40 point ahead of the nearest guy back, but he won state champion because he had an annual lisence. I know he raced hard, but just dosent seem right to me. I went back and read the race bible for psycowpath, and it says nothing about needing a annual lisence to win state. I know I won the series points, and get free racing next year, but i cant help but be disappoionted. This really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Psycowpath series points standings and State Championship designation are basically two seperate entities. Sorry about the confusion. But take comfort in that points and series standings are much more important and more long remembered than a one day "state champ."

The press release on Nebraska Cycling gave warning about this.
http://www.nebraskacyclingnews.com/content/view/767/190/

In the first paragraph of the press release:
"In addition, Saturday's XC event will crown winning Nebraska residences and NORBA annual license holders with the official title of State Champion, with recognition for 2nd and 3rd place as well. If you're in the running and don't have an annual license, now's the time to get one to be formally recognized by the National Offroad Bicycling Association and USA Cycling."

Nopw I'm trying to figure out NORBA's logic on this... I suppose one reason that NORBA requires winners to have annual licenses is bc annual licenses are the only way NORBA tracks your performance, participation, and what catgory you're in. Without an annual license requirement, I could drive down to Kansas and fill out a one day license and race beginner open and maybe become the beginner state champ. But I can't do that bc it requires an annual license. By having an annual license my upgrade requests are reviewed by NORBA and a Nebraska USAC/NORBA volunteer; upgrades are approved and tracked based on performance AND participation. To get folks into the sport, NORBA doesnt require annuals for participating in Beg/Sport cats, but you'll find that to race in the (typically) more competitive expert field, and annual license is required.

And for what its worth, I bet the guy that actually got the "state champ" medal would probably trade it in and would rather be able to say that he crossed the finish line before you. Congratulations on a stellar, enviable performance at this race and throughout the season.

Well said RF, and I echo the comment, great job Dave!

The rider who crossed the finsih line first wins the race. The rest is just political nonsense.
Outstanding job Dave.

So how are our injured folks doing? I didn't see Doug go down, but I saw him on the side of the trail. I thought he was just bumbed to be in the lead so quick and was dropping back to last place to make it more of a challenge. ;-)

I didn't have any cramps during the race, but I was twisting into knotts last night. I don't think I've had that many muscle spasms in one night since my college Cross Country days. Just confirms that I made a solid effort yesterday.

Now to start training for next year! ;-)

The annual license requirement for state champion should be in the race bible. Thanks for pointing out that omission.

That requirement has ticked off other riders as well, both mtb and road.

Depending on how you read the USAC rule book (mine is from 2005), only annual licensees are allowed to race in the state championship. If Psycowpath followed that understanding, the state championship race would not be economically viable. I view the state championship medals as an "atta boy/girl" for those who support USAC.

I got nipped at the line last year in the State road race but won the state championship because I had an annual add-on. Because I only raced once or twice, I ended up paying $20 for that medal.

You ran 4 of 8 races this year and thus qualified for (and won!) the Beg/clyde series championship. An annual would have cost you an extra $20 for the medal and state champion title.

Even if you had known that requirement at the beginning of the year, would you have bought an annual? You needed some encouragement mid season to get four races in to qualify for series champion.

Dave, congrats for putting in the time and effort in order to win the series championship!

Mamasita mean.

Still can't walk right. My front wheel doesn't turn. Mary says "last race." "EVER"!!!!!

Oh yeah, Doctor called this morning, said I do need my Gall Bladder removed. Be interesting to see what heals first, surgery or smashed legs.

Good job to everyone else though that raced and a special thanks to Martin Bixby who worked his butt off all season to keep Swanson in great shape. Especially after year with a lot of bad weather.

Biker Bob/Runner Bob said...

Agreed... Props to Martin for a job well done.

Leave it to Doug to have his Gall Bladder removed to save a few grams. ;-)

Good luck with the surgery. I hope you heal up quickly. At least you will be doing it when your already side lined for a little while.

Is that about the 4th or 5th EVER!

Wondered how black and blue you are.

Recover well, my friend. Your friends and I will take care of Tranquility till you recover fully.
